A film biography of Lech Wałęsa, covering the period from the bloody repressed strikes at the Gdańsk Shipyard in December 1970 to his famous speech before the combined chambers of the US Congress on November 15, 1989.
March 1981 The famous Italian journalist Oriana Fallaci, accompanied by an interpreter, arrives at the Gdańsk blockhouse to interview Lech Wałęsa, a worker unknown to anyone until recently, and today the leader of the 10 million-strong “Solidarity” — the first independent trade union on the eastern side of the “Iron Curtain”. The very beginning of the conversation reveals that there will be a clash of two strong personalities. Both Fallaci and Wałęsa want to impose their style of conversation. The journalist's next questions become a pretext for long flashbacks, revealing individual stages of Lech Wałęsa's life.
After the session, a meeting with Robert Więckiewicz.
