11th UFF - Demons

The action takes place in the turbulent years after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The protagonist is Nina — a charismatic woman who takes in a homeless Russian tramp posing as a writer. Hoping for a new life together, she quickly discovers that the mystical land of Poltava — where witches live next to ordinary residents and the dead talk to the living — gradually reveals the true nature of the man she has let into her home.

The role of Nina is played by Ruslana Pysanka, well known to the Polish audience for her role as Horpyna in Jerzy Hoffman's Fire and Sword. The prominent actress died in July 2022, while work on the film was still ongoing. After her death, the creators respectfully refined the final sequences, remaining faithful to the original director's vision. The film is a special farewell to the artist.
