How did a Humpolca boy dominate the hashish market in Nepal? And what was his relationship with Polish smugglers, with whom he shared Asian routes? Cezary Borowy, author of the book “How Vaclav from Humpolec became the king of hashish in Kathmandu”, will tell us about all this!

Cezary Borowy (born 1960) is a writer and researcher of the history of smuggling groups in India. Before graduating from elementary school, he read all the adventure books from the area libraries. He dreamed of distant travels, wanted to know, see and touch everything. “Yes, they are waiting for you there!” They mocked the adults, but he didn't believe them. To tame fear, he began to walk alone at night in forests and cemeteries. Ten years later, he was packing very carefully for Orbis's trip to London. He knew it was a one-way ticket.

Curiosity drove him further: from rickety buses in Nepal and leaky boats in the Philippines, to the slums of Calcutta, to the obsessively clean avenues of Singapore. He even went to a place from which, as they said, he would leave only with his legs forward.

At the age of 58, he sat down at his desk to write down his memoirs. In 2019, he released the high-profile debut “I was a smuggler in India”. The excellent reception of the book gave rise to a whole cycle about the mysterious community of smugglers in Asia. In 2021, “Smugglers of Golden Bones” premiered, and in 2026, a book about the life of a Czech smuggler “How Vaclav from Humpolec became the king of hashish in Kathmandu”.
