Have you ever chilled out a ping pong table?
People party, laugh and argue on the ping pong table in Andaçs and Cerens quarters. Songs are created here, fake letters of apology and now the two siblings are filming a film here. On the 16 GB memory card that their parents gave them for graduation.
A film about her life, her family, her world. About everything that has shaped them. Like her mother, who always had to work and therefore has rough hands. Her film is an homage to all the rough hands around her — because otherwise it's never about her unless there's a problem. And as the 16 GB fill up and Andaç and Ceren make visible through their film what remains invisible far too often, they realize that in Germany, rough hands are the most valuable and worthless at the same time.
Zehra Sönmez's debut, which won the Berlin Play Prize for Young Audiences from the State of Berlin at the Theater an der Parkaue in 2024, poses the urgent question: Whose stories belong to the “German We”? The piece calls for solidarity from a young post-migrant perspective and is brought on stage by director Till Doğan Ertener with great directness, powerful beats and live camera.
Funded by the Federal Cultural Foundation. Sponsored by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media.
