20_14 Assembly works from a non-hierarchical approach without fixed roles or a central leading figure. The musicians move freely between different musical positions and expressions, and let the musical direction arise in the situation.

20_14 Assembly originates from the music platform 20_14, founded in 2021 by drummer, producer and curator Rune Kielsgaard. 20_14 is based on dissolving traditional musical hierarchies, framing contrasts and giving way to new perspectives. The music arises in the span between the various starting points of the participants and in what is occurring in the moment. The mentioned quintet has already documented this approach on the album 20_14 quintet 1 (2024), recorded live at Mayhem in Copenhagen.

Meet the Five Musicians

Clarissa Connelly is a Danish-Scottish composer and singer. With a distinctive blend of Celtic folk and experimental pop, she has made her mark internationally. She has studied singing and vocal development with Meredith Monk in New York. In 2021, she received the Nordic Music Prize.

Mija Milovic is a Danish-Montenegrin composer, musician and producer based in Copenhagen. Her musical practice is based on improvisation and alternative ways of creating music. She has published several works in her own name and is additionally a member of the rock band SLIM0 and Kvindebanda.

Henriette Motzfeldt is a Norwegian musician and producer based in Copenhagen. She is one half of the internationally acclaimed avant-garde pop and R&B duo Smerz, who are currently touring with the critically acclaimed album Big City Life.

Cæcilie Trier is a classically trained cellist, singer and composer. She has been a member of the Choir of Young Believers and the Marching Church, among others, and has most recently starred in the TLF Trio of Dev Hynes Ensemble. Under the name CTM, she works in a field between minimalist composition, vocals and electronic music.

Rune Kielsgaard is drummer, producer and curator and founder of the platform 20_14. He has, among others, played with I Got You On Tape and works extensively on the impromptu live scene. Previously with Jakob Bro and Rhys Chatham, among others.
