2001: A Space Odyssey

A masterpiece of the science fiction genre. Kubrick set new perspectives on popular science films and redefined the boundaries of film, extending them to a pure contemplation of the nature of humanity. The action time of the film extends from the dawn of human history to the title year. On Earth in the Stone Age, in the presence of a mysterious monolith, man for the first time uses a tool as a weapon and thus takes a step towards gaining intelligence. In 1999, cosmonauts discover a similar black obelisk on the Moon. In 2001, on a spacecraft orbiting between Jupiter and Earth, an onboard computer makes a mistake, killing most of the crew and, in order to hide its guilt, leads to the deaths of more people. Out of time: the only man who survived the journey to Jupiter moves on to the next stage of human development.
