Exhibition of Arkadiusz Marcinkowski's posters on Festival of Polish Contemporary Painting in Szczecin
Arkadiusz Marcinkowski is a graduate of the State High School of Fine Arts in Szczecin.
Twenty-six posters should not be taken as illustrations of the festival. They are his artistic echo — a personal commentary of the artist, for whom the Festival of Polish Contemporary Painting has for years remained one of the most important points of reference in thinking about art. It is a record of the dialogue conducted with painting, with the history of this unique event and with the question of the future of painting in the age of new technologies.
“The Festival of Polish Contemporary Painting in Szczecin has for decades remained one of the most important events marking the development of Polish art. For subsequent generations of artists, art historians and audiences, it is a meeting place with the most important phenomena of contemporary painting, documenting the ever-changing language of painting.
My relationship with this event is of a long-standing nature. Over the years, I followed the next editions of the festival, observing the aesthetic transformations, the changing creative attitudes and the evolution of the ways of thinking about the image. It was from this longstanding fascination that a series of twenty-six posters prepared on the occasion of the 26th Festival of Polish Contemporary Painting was born.
The works presented are not an attempt to interpret specific paintings or portray the artists participating in the festival. They represent the author's reflection on the very idea of painting — its power of impact, materiality, color, light and emotional dimension. Here the poster becomes not only a medium of communication, but an autonomous form of artistic expression, capable of conducting a dialogue with painting on equal rights.
The series was realized with the use of generative tools based on machine learning models, which were treated as a contemporary creative tool, expanding the possibilities of artistic exploration. Just as in the past photography, computer graphics and digital printing changed the artist's workshop, today generative technologies open up new spaces of exploration. However, the value of the work is not determined by the tool used, but by the sensitivity of the author, his aesthetic awareness and the ability to give meaning to the images.
The exhibition is not a story about technology. It is a story about painting — its enduring presence in culture and its ability to be constantly reborn in new media. Tradition and innovation are not mutually exclusive, but complement each other, creating a common space for reflection on contemporary painting.” — Arkadiusz Marcinkowski
