JAPAN. TWO DECADES LATER
An extraordinary journey through Japan from the perspective of 20 years — from the first expedition to the next returns to the country of the Blossoming Cherry. Old memories and photographs will meet contemporary images to create a story of places, people, emotions and changes that two decades have brought.
From the tropical beaches of Okinawa, through the volcanic landscapes of Kyushu, historic Hiroshima, the temples of Kyoto and Nara, the mountain trails of the Japanese Alps and the slopes of Fuji, to the bustling Tokyo and wild Hokkaido, we will travel Japan from south to north.
Photographs from 20 years ago will be combined with images of contemporary Japan. Music, movies and original sound recordings will allow not only to see, but also to feel the atmosphere of the places you visit. There will be no shortage of anecdotes, behind-the-scenes travel stories and personal memories of several returns to samurai country.
Ania and Marcin Szymczakow and Iga and Janek
Their adventure with travel began back in the student days with joint treks in the mountains of the whole world and expeditions in the footsteps of the Silk Road. There was the “Roof of the World”, the sacred Kailas, the tea under Fuji and the Amazon jungle. Today they travel as a family — with their daughter Iga and their son Jaśek — still looking for places that are not obvious and far from those described in tourist guides.
Travelling has been associated with photography for years. They have released albums about Japan, Bolivia and Tibet, as well as the best-selling “Tatras with a child” and “Georgia 3in1”, among others. For several years they have also co-organized professional InMundo slideshows at the Wisła cinema in Warsaw.
