In 1996, a cassette was released as part of a sound installation by the fictional label “domicile edition”. Thirty years later, the artist label run by Marcus Mäder and Bernd Schurer looks back on a catalog of more than fifty releases. domizil was created in Zurich's techno and experimental music scene in the 1990s, when the first affordable laptops made it possible to produce electronic music at home, in one's own “home.” To this day, the label stands for curious, non-academic computer music at the interface of electronic music, field recording and visual art, and increasingly also of environmental reflection, generative art, data sonification, ambient poetics, acoustic ecology and artistic research.

Domizil is celebrating its anniversary in Berlin at Silent Green, where the label has already celebrated its 20th anniversary. On December 12th, farmersmanual, Rashad Becker, Asmus Tietchens, Noémi Büchi, Normification, Benjamin Flesser and Jedan Nula will perform. Normification is a project by Florian Hecker and Marcin Pietruszewski. Jedan Nula, the duo of Bernd Schurer and Marcus Mäder, presents their anniversary release this evening.
The evening brings together long-time companions and new voices from Zurich and Berlin, from pioneers of glitch and computer music to a younger generation of Swiss composers. It is a celebration with friends and at the same time an outlook: Domizil will be active in both Zurich and Berlin in the future.
Saturday, December 12th Dome Hall Admission: 6:30 p.m./Start: 19:00 Tickets
farmersmanual farmersmanual is a group for electronic music and visual art that was founded in Vienna in the mid-1990s. The core of the loosely organized collective includes Mathias Gmachl, Stefan Possert, Oswald Berthold, Gert Brantner and Nik Gaffney. With No Backup (1996), the first long-playing production by the Viennese label Mego, as well as releases on Tray and OR, farmersmanual became a defining voice of early laptop and computer music. The focus is on live performance: improvised, connected, often broadcast live over the Internet and combined with real-time visuals, network visualization and sonification.
Rashad Becker For more than three decades, the Syrian-German composer, musician and mastering engineer has worked in experimental music, club, film, theatre and visual arts, developing his very own electronic language. His compositions unfold as densely populated synthetic narratives in which sounds behave almost like characters: They interact, compete, retreat and mutate in strange, tragicomic and often eerie forms. His album The Incident (2025), the first solo album in almost ten years and the first release on his label Clunk, is designed as a labyrinthine “pseudo-musical” about information, representation, testimony and documentation.
Jedan Nula Jedan Nula, Serbo-Croatian for “one-zero”, is the Zurich and Berlin-based duo of Marcus Mäder and Bernd Schurer. It combines electronic music with field recordings to create edited, extended soundscapes. “Critical Ambient,” as they both call their practice, not only creates atmosphere, but also plays with tonal meanings and makes the friction between synthetic sounds and real recordings audible. Natural sounds are cut up, looped, or digitally distorted, echoing topics such as urbanization, climate change, or surveillance. Unlike conventional ambient music, “Critical Ambient” can be unsettling and thus requires active listening: What else is “real”? How does technology shape our perception? What are the relationships between the artificial and the natural?
Noémi Büchi Noémi Büchi is a Swiss-French composer and sound artist between contemporary electronic and electroacoustic composition and performance. It combines electroacoustic orchestral abstraction, analog synthesis, and raw noise to create vast, detailed sound architectures. In addition to concerts, he creates audiovisual works and commissioned works for film, dance, installation and fashion. Her work has been heard at festivals such as CTM, MUTEK, Ars Electronica, L.E.V. and Nuits Sonores, as well as at the Museo Nacional Reina Sofía in Madrid and at Pavillon Le Corbusier in Zurich. She lives and works in Basel, Zurich and Paris.
Born in 1947 and living in Hamburg, the composer and synthesizer experimenter Asmus Tietchens has been active since the mid-1960s and has influenced several generations of electronic musicians and sound artists. Influenced by Karlheinz Stockhausen, his work pursues “absolute music” between strict form, abstract sound research and musique concrète. He has released more than 100 recordings, including collaborations with Merzbow, Vidna Obmana and Thomas Köner. In addition to his musical work, he has been teaching acoustics at Hamburg universities since 1990 and writes liner notes for publications by the Bureau B label.
NORMIFICATION NORMIFICATION is a project initiated in 2016 by Florian Hecker, Marcin Pietruszewski and the graphic design studio NORM, consisting of Dimitri Bruni, Manuel Krebs and Ludovic Varone. It transfers graphic design methods and algorithmic structures into sound synthesis and composition. The focus is on the reciprocal movement between data and sound, from the graphical algorithm to the sound event and back to the structured data set. The project investigates how structure, perception and sound material interact and sees sound as an ongoing process of algorithmic transformation.
Benjamin Flesser Benjamin Flesser is a Berlin-based composer, live electronic performer, sound designer and instrument maker. He works with analog and hybrid modular synthesizers as well as specially developed and modified electronics and has designed several hundred systems for studio, performance and environment-sensitive installations. His work has been presented at Berlin Atonal, Blurred Edges Hamburg and Silent Green, among others. His artistic and research-related work was supported by funding institutions such as Music Fund and Pro Helvetia. He has been teaching bachelor and master students since 2021. In 2016, he founded Hyperlinear, a concert edition with recurring collaborations with NK Project.
With support from Pro Helvetia.
