About the event

We invite you to the jubilee, 35th edition of the International Organ Festival — Legnica Organ Evenings. In the Evangelical Church of the Virgin Mary (St. Mary's Square 1), the “king of instruments” will sound — the historic Weigle organ, the sound of which can be heard both in solo recitals and in combination with other instruments and voice. Admission to all concerts is free.

Jubilee, 35th edition of the International Organ Festival — Legnica Organ Evenings will start on Tuesday, July 7 at 19:15. The Evangelical Church of the Virgin Mary will feature an international trio: Jeong Eon Park from South Korea on Weigley's organ, Scottish piper Lindsay Davidson and harpist Irena Czubek-Davidson. The concert will be hosted by Anna Wagner. Admission is free.

The program of the evening will combine organ music from different eras with the sound of Scottish bagpipes and the Celtic harp. We will hear compositions by Nicolas Bruhns, Louis-Nicolas Clérambault, César Franck and Mieczysław Surzyński, as well as works inspired by the Scottish musical tradition by one of the heroes of the evening — Lindsay Davidson. The combination of these instruments will allow the audience to hear a wide spectrum of colors and musical influences, opening the next installment of one of the most important organ festivals in the region.

For the chamber concert, which is the second jubilee event of the 35th edition of the International Organ Festival — Legnica Organ Evenings, we invite you to the Evangelical Church of the Virgin Mary on July 21 at 7:15pm. Roman Perucki (organ) and Łukasz Długosz (flute) will perform. The concert will be hosted by Anna Wagner. Admission is free.

The program of the evening covers a wide range of musical literature — from baroque to contemporary. We will hear Johann Sebastian Bach's Fantasia in G major BWV 572, as well as works by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, including Tröstung op. 71, Sulejka op. 34 No. 4 and Sonata No. 3 in A major op. 65. We will also hear compositions of the 20th and 21st century: Apfelbaum, Kastanie and Ailulu by Enjott Schneider, Mieczysław Surzyński's Sonata in D minor Op. 35, Karol Szymanowski's Kurpi Song and Wojciech Kilar's vocals.

The third jubilee concert of the 35th edition of the International Organ Festival — Legnica Organ Evenings will take place on 18 August at 19:15 in the Evangelical Church of the Virgin Mary. There will be performances by Jolanta Sosnowska — violinist and singer — and Piotr Grinholc — organist and composer. The event will be hosted by Anna Wagner. Admission is free.

The program of the evening will combine music of different eras and styles. We will hear works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Biber, Arvo Pärt, Fryderyk Chopin, Antonín Dvořák and Théodore Dubois, as well as Piotr Grinholc's composition O Salutaris Hostia. An additional sound element will be a concert idiophon, on which Jolanta Sosnowska will play.

On September 8, the festival stage will bring together organs, clarinet and harmonicas, creating a program full of musical contrasts. Małgorzata Klorek (organ), Piotr Piechocki (clarinet) and Trio Animato composed of Marek Jaroszyński (chromatic harmonica), Piotr Bieliński (chord harmonica) and Piotr Włodarczyk (bass harmonica) will perform. The concert will be hosted by Anna Wagner.

The programme will include works by the most outstanding composers of different eras, including Georg Friedrich Handel, Johann Sebastian Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, Astor Piazzolla, César Franck, Ignacy Jan Paderewski and Louis James Alfred Lefébure-Wely. The audience will hear both the monumental sound of the historic Weigle organ, as well as the subtle dialogues of the organ with the clarinet and unusual arrangements performed by the Trio Animato. There will also be a musical surprise with the participation of... the smallest instrument in the world.

On Tuesday, October 13, at 19:15, in the Evangelical Church of the Virgin Mary, the final concert of the 35th edition of the Legnica Organ Evenings entitled Word and Music will take place. Andrzej Chorosiński (organ), Michał Chorosiński (recitations) and the Resonance Brass band composed of: Marcin Król, Grzegorz Krause, Rafał Czemarmazowicz will perform. The event will be hosted by Anna Wagner.

The program of the event combines organ music, the sound of a trumpet band and a poetic word. The evening will open with Marc-Antoine Charpentier's ceremonial Te Deum for piccolo trumpet with organ, followed by Benjamin Britten's Fanfare for St. Edmundsbury for three trumpets. In the next part we will hear the first part of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Symphony in G minor KV 550, as well as interpretations of the most beautiful works of romantic poetry — fragments of poems by Adam Mickiewicz and Juliusz Słowacki will be recited by the famous actor Michał Chorosiński. The programme will also include Fryderyk Chopin's Etude in C minor Op. 25 and Mieczysław Surzyński's Capriccio in F minor Op. 36. The concert will be crowned with a Baroque suite of Water Music by Georg Friedrich Handel and Toccata in D minor by Johann Sebastian Bach.

On 8 November at 7.15 pm in the Evangelical Church of the Virgin Mary there will be a special concert of the 35th edition of Legnica Organ Evenings Music of Silesian synagogues. Jakub Stefek — organ, Wojciech Parchem — tenor, Konstancja Molewska — soprano and Match Match Ensemble conducted by Liliana Krych will perform. The event will be combined with the premiere of an album presenting the musical heritage of the former Silesian synagogues.

The concert program is dedicated to the work of composers associated with Jewish liturgical music of the 19th century. We will hear works by Moritz Deutsch, Moritz Tintner, Salomon Ludwig Ehrlich, Louis Lewandowski and Eduard Hamburger. The concert will be an opportunity to discover the rich musical heritage of Silesian synagogues and to recall the work of composers whose works remained little known to the general public for decades.

The project is co-financed from the Budget of the Local Government of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. The co-organizer of the project is the Centre for Culture and Art in Wrocław — Institute of Culture of the Lower Silesian Voivodship Self-Government.
