60 years of CULTURE

In 2026, our cultural center, called Culture in the 60s and 70s, celebrates its 60th anniversary. On this occasion we have prepared a surprise, memorable concert for you.

In 1966, a cultural centre, commonly known as Culture, was opened to the employees of the mine, whose full name was Zakładowy Dom Kultury of the Kazimierz-Juliusz mine. It was the most beautiful and well-equipped House of Culture in the Zagłębie, hailed as the Mister of Cultural Houses.

During the political changes, the activity of ZDK began to shrink. The changes that have taken place in the Polish mining industry, as well as the economic account, have not allowed the mines to carry out such extensive cultural activities as they have done so far. The full activity of ZDK was carried out until 1993.

After a break of more than a dozen years, the history of the House of Culture began again at the beginning of the 21st century. The idea was born to reactivate the institution and in 2004 the House of Culture “Kazimierz” began to operate as a branch of the Municipal Club “Maczki”. For two years, the renovation took place.

In 2006, the City Council in Sosnowiec decided to establish a new cultural unit of the Municipal House of Culture “Kazimierz” and so after 40 years the institution began to open again to the residents of Kazimierz. At the end of January and the beginning of February 2018, the reconstruction of the MDK began. A new wing was added to the existing building. Another challenge for the business was the covid-19 pandemic, when for several months the facility practically ceased operations, and negligible activities were transferred to the Internet.

Another breakthrough for the cultural center was the years 2022 — 2023, in which the institution went through a number of significant changes, the most important of which was the merger of two institutions into one. On the last day of March 2023, by a resolution of the City Council, the Maczki Municipal Club and the Kazimierz Municipal House of Culture were merged into one institution called Przystanek Otwartej Kultury. Thus, history came full circle and after the separation in 2006, after 17 years KM Maczki and MDK Kazimierz became one institution again. The merger of the institutions was not a continuation of the previous activities of both institutions under the new banner, but a profound reform and reorganization. After years of stagnation in the institution, life began to pulsate.
