What is it like to play Walesa for Wajda? Robert Więckiewicz returns to the meeting with the master and the film that connected their stories. He will take us for a walk in the director's footsteps through the permanent exhibition of the ECS.

The walk takes place during the All About Freedom Festival.

“He doesn't play Lech Wałęsa, he just is,” they said after the first Polish screening of Andrzej Wajda's film. There were even voices: “better than the original.”

Robert Więckiewicz met with Wajda on the set of “Wałęsa. Man of Hope” creating one of the most memorable roles of his career. On the occasion of the Year of Andrzej Wajda, he will return to that meeting and take us in the footsteps of the director after the permanent exhibition ECS.

The exhibition, which tells about the latest history of Poland, will be the starting point for a conversation about the film Wajda and its characters. Because the story he was showing on the screen was the same story whose traces can be found in the exhibition — from December '70, through August '80 and Solidarity, to the transformations of 1989.

How was the film version of Wałęsa made? What did Więckiewicz see in it that you can't see on the screen? How does he remember working with one of the masters of Polish cinema? One of the most important contemporary Polish actors will talk about Wajda, his work on the role of Wałęsa and behind the scenes of the film, and his memoirs will allow us to look at well-known events also from the side of the film set.
