A.CHAL has moved at sparkling comet speed onto the international pop scene. With his groovy, rebellious neo-chicha sound and pride in his Peruvian roots, he strikes a strong spirit of the time and connects with audiences both in Peru and internationally. Experience him at ALICE through November — before he runs off to the biggest scenes.
Singer, songwriter and producer Alejandro Salazar was born in Peru but raised between Queens in New York and Massachusetts. He had already established a longer career on the alternative R&B and hip hop scene under the artist name A.CHAL when he decided to reconnect with his roots, his Peruvian identity, spirituality and the folk music traditions that have marked his origin. The result is a compelling reinterpretation of Peruvian chicha, where danceable cumbia, traditional huayno music from the Andes and electric guitars meet A.Chal's urban sound. The chicha was previously looked down upon by the established upper class in Lima, but A.CHAL sings with pride and rebellious fire his country's culture and folk traditions onto the international pop scene -- in Spanish and with a powerful visual universe.
As a Peruvian answer to Bad Bunny, A.CHAL unites the street, migration, desire, roots and mystery in a universe that moves naturally between the global and the Latin American. His music hits directly at a generation and an era spirit that insists on cherishing the cultures of indigenous peoples and being proud of where one comes from. After only three new singles that have to that extent set the tone for a new and groundbreaking chapter in A.Chal's career, word about the Peruvian star has spread like a steppe fire. This autumn he is touring Europe for the first time and, following massive demand, we are very pleased to present his first ever Danish concert at ALICE. Come and experience A.CHAL in intimate settings before he runs off to the biggest scenes.
