Bienvenue à l'inferno. Bienvenue à Varsovie. You will be the lord.
“Adrenalina” is a story about modern Warsaw seen from the perspective of young adults trying to find their place in life and the eponymous adrenaline. Driven by strong emotions, stimulants and a desperate desperate search for meaning, the protagonists traverse Prague, like a game arena, to feel something MORE.
It is in this reality that Marlenka takes on a mission — she has to find a new apartment. It almost borders on a miracle when you have absolutely no hair and are the girl of the type that everyone knows chases goods and tends to be hot-tempered. Motivated by the need to find a new place for herself and her little sister, Marlenka leads us through the corners of Prague like through successive RPG boards, in which we pass courtyards where neighbors load airguns, shrines with the Virgin Mary, a methadone clinic, milk bars stopped in time and gates where you can buy everything.
An important reference point for the creators of the play is the book “Modernity on High” by Michael Herer, in which the use of psychoactive substances is presented not as a margin of modernity, but as one of its mechanisms: a way to accelerate, anesthetize, escape from pain and produce the energy needed to function in late capitalism.
Similarly, in “Adrenalin” Warsaw becomes an organism with an overloaded nervous system. He tries to keep up, get energized, survive and at the same time find something real outside of chemistry.
Is there anything that can save Marlene? Or is the city full of dead ends, and the dealers of sense and dealers of mephedrone are often the same people? One thing is certain: there are many open gates. Maybe one quick day and one night is enough to check them all out? Because is Prague the most fashionable part of Warsaw, or is it the end of the world from which there is no escape?
What distinguishes the creative team of “Adrenaline” is a strong, young female perspective.
The director of the play is Ewa Galica — a directing student at the Theatre Academy in Warsaw, combining artistic activity with social and educational work. Her performances have been presented at numerous Polish and foreign festivals, and the artist herself has been honored, among others, with the ZAiKS awards and the Best Director Award at the FIST festival in Belgrade.
The author of the drama is Anna Mazurek, whose debut novel “Dziwki”, kept in the noir convention, was published in 2019 by the publishing house Ha! Art. Her second book, “Game Animals”, was published by W.A.B. Both publications received a very good reception of criticism, especially for their fresh and non-obvious approach to species conventions.
A 15-year-old resident of Prague, Zofia Ankiersztejn, also joined the acting team, who represents the authentic voice and gaze of the younger generation.
The performance is realized as part of the Municipal Revitalization Program of the city of Warsaw until 2030.
theatrical BHPIn the performance, the themes of drugs and violence are raised, profanity is spoken. Stage smoke, strobe effect (light pulsating with high frequency) are used — people sensitive to these theatrical measures are asked to be extra careful.
