Aftersun

“Aftersun” is the directorial debut of the Scottish Charlotte Wells, inspired by her own story. Wells moves the most tender strings in us, building her film from the nostalgic impressions and fleeting emotions of an authentic vacation trip with her father to a Turkish resort in the 90s. The director talks about growing up and being yourself in the relationship between a child and a parent. One of the producers of “Aftersun” is Barry Jenkins, who won an Oscar for “Moonlight”. In the background we hear the musical hits of the 90s — from “Macarena”, to “Losing My Religion”, to the eloquent song “Under Pressure” performed by David Bowie and Freddie Mercury (one of the most moving dance scenes in modern cinema).
