World Cinema Academy: Nightmare whispers

Forest psychedelic bath. Night sleepwalker walk. Procrastination not to write a doctorate. Playing green, playing in classes. The film of the Canadian duo collects all this and adds the joy of following the plot meandering like the route of the heroines walking through summer Montreal. Lucie tries to write a dissertation about the theme of the game in culture, but life keeps throwing logs under her feet. The visa and the cash register run out, she is haunted by the ex-boyfriend-actor, and scientific objectivity is not helped by the romance with the promoter. Fortunately, in the park, he meets a mysterious shaman and a new friend, Béatrice. Full of the joy of life, the rusalka persuades Lucie to find her own way, even if it means a radical break with everything. Nightmare whispers are woven from allusions, from Dostoevsky and Huizinga to the music of the 20th century (thematically selected plays by Debussy and Lutosławski). But despite this, they remain light and airy, which brings to mind the cinema of Rohmer, Rivette and Hong. Nature returning to the city will play a key role in Lucie's transformation: on an overgrown track, fields of goldenrod or in a forest park. This, as the architects say, is the fourth nature, that is, the new, “wild” vegetation that colonizes the areas left by humans - and it is precisely this control over the environment that the main character gives up.
