The Polish Film Academy is a nationwide educational program promoting knowledge about the history of domestic cinema, implemented by the National Film Archive — Audiovisual Institute. Its core is APF Fabuła — a course on the history of Polish feature film, which was inaugurated in 2009. The classes are led by the most outstanding film experts from academic centers from all over the country, and each meeting combines an academic lecture with a film projection, illustrating the achievements of Polish cinema in a wide spectrum of names, genres and topics.
So far, the Polish Film Academy has been held in Warsaw (Iluzjon cinema), Łódź (Cinematography Museum) and Gdańsk (University of Gdańsk). In the new season, three more centers will join the group of partner cities: Kraków (cinema Agrafka), Poznań (cinema Palace) and Toruń (cinema Niebieski Kocyk). The programme, on which we are currently cooperating with the University of Warsaw, the University of Lodz and the University of Gdańsk, will also be joined by: Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski University in Krakow, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poznań Film School Foundation and Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torrent Union.
Starting this academic year, in five of these cities we will present a new installment of the APF Course Story — I semester: “In search of identity. Polish cinema until 1956. It will be devoted to the development of cinema on Polish soil in the first half century of its existence — from pioneering productions to the first works of the Polish film school. In Krakow, on the other hand, we invite you to the renewed course “Wajda. Director of the picture”, presenting the pictorial inspirations and visual language of Andrzej Wajda's work.
We cordially invite both students and free listeners to a joint film journey through the history of Polish cinema.
