Miracle on the Vistula River (51')
Bolesławski's film is a patriotic drama illustrating episodes of the Polish-Bolshevik war. It is distinguished by the efficient execution made by the actor and director of the famous MCHAT, who later became a recognized Hollywood creator. “Miracle on the Vistula” was commissioned by the Propaganda Department of the Ministry of Military Affairs. Due to the selection of the cast and the exciting theme, the picture enjoyed great success among the Polish audience.
The action of the film begins on Christmas Eve 1919 on the eastern borders of the Republic of Poland in the manor house of the Granowski family. The peaceful life of the family members, along with the Bolshevik invader, is invaded by war. After many dramatic events, the victorious advance of the Polish troops restores peace and finally allows the heroes, after a long separation, to start a new, happy life. The final sequences of the film contain a documentary recording of the presentation of the Marshal's Mace to Józef Piłsudski on 14 August 1920.
