The performance consists of two one-liners by Pierre de Marivaux — “Actors in Good Faith” and “Trial”, translated by Jerzy Radziwiłowicz.
The one-book “Actors in Good Faith” tells about the preparations for the performance, which is supposed to decorate the wedding ceremony of a certain bride and groom. The household members, in good faith, go to rehearsals, not suspecting that soon fiction will mix with truth, and playing in the theater will turn into a psychodrama show...
“The Trial” is the story of another couple in love — he is well-born, she less wealthy. So the future groom comes up with the idea to test the sincerity of his beloved's feelings, entangling her in a staged love intrigue.
In the Marivaux theatre, everything seems to be fun to get the characters to recognize their feelings, and so it becomes. The problem is that often the game gets out of hand and exposes what many would like to hide.
