Can jazz not only be listened to, but also created, discovered and experienced together? Of course! “But Jazz!” is a unique concert for children, during which young participants will not be just an audience. They will become part of the musical story — they will listen, sing, rhythm, play and discover that music can be a language that each of us can communicate with.
The concert is inspired by the thought of Edwin E. Gordon, an American jazz double bass player and educator who has spent his life researching the way children learn music. According to Gordon, music is learned through listening and experiencing, much like our native language. Therefore, during “But Jazz!” It's not just about listening. There will be rhythm, melody, dialogue, improvisation, singing and playing together. Participants will discover how a few sounds can create a real musical conversation. The show will also feature music by John Coltrane and Miles Davis. 2026 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of both prominent artists, so their work will become an important part of this musical journey.
“But Jazz!” is an invitation to a world where you don't need to know the notes to make music. It is a meeting, dialogue, improvisation and, above all, good fun.
