A pulse. A rupture. A breath held between worlds. Always, Already There gathers sound artists: Jessica Ekomane, Yara Mekawei, Ahmed Essyad, Shamica Ruddock, Cedrik Fermont and KMRU in a restless field of sound–where frequencies tremble, signals fracture and new forms emerge.
These sound loops pull from the concepts of numerous intellectuals with the intention of asking what might happen when we stop trying to make everything fit. From Kodwo Eshun's Sonic Fiction, an approach that explores the generative possibilities of Afrofuturism to Édouard Glissant's tremulous thought, a philosophy rooted in a fluid and shifting way of understanding the world and Legacy Russell’s Glitch Feminism, which finds liberation in the glitch between body, gender and technology.
Here, sound can be imaginary, impossible and unfinished.
