an Accident/a Life

After the successes with NOMAD and SUTRA, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui returns to Copenhagen Danser — this time together with dancer Marc Brew in their 2024 work, an Accident /a Life.

When Marc Brew was 20 years old and at the beginning of his ballet career, the car he was sitting in was hit by a drunk driver. The three people he was with were killed; Marc Brew survived, but the accident left him paralysed. An Accident /a Life explores this traumatic, life-changing event.

In a powerful visual theatre experience that blends dance and theatre into something completely original, Marc Brew performs this touching and highly personal work, created in collaboration with Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. A simple but distinctive scenography, music, dance, narration, film, a car and humor are the elements Marc and Sidi Larbi use to navigate the deeply personal landscape.

Through a tender and vulnerable examination of the body's ability to cope, survive, change and thrive, Sidi Larb Cherkaoui and Marc Brew create a vivid testimony to a very profound and specific moment in time.

The performance is made in honour of and dedicated to Joanne, Simon and Toby and our families.
