ANDRZEJ WAJDA. I WAS BORN IN SUWAŁKI | Exhibition and author's meeting

On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of Andrzej Wajda's death, we invite you to a unique event dedicated to the memory of an outstanding director, artist and citizen born in Suwałki. The event will be hosted by Dorota Skłodowska.

Exhibition “Andrzej Wajda. Artist. Citizen. Senator” is a story about the artistic path of a world-renowned artist and his multidimensional involvement in artistic and public life.
In October, the exhibition “Wajda” will be presented at the Suwałki Cultural Center. Artist, senator, citizen”, prepared as part of the celebration of the Year of Andrzej Wajda. The exhibition presents a multidimensional portrait of an outstanding director — an artist of world renown, and at the same time an active participant in public life and a senator of the Republic of Poland for the first term.
The exhibition takes you through the most important areas of Wajda's life and activity — from his family roots and war experiences, through art, film and theater, to his fascination with Japan and his work for intercultural dialogue. A separate place is occupied by the Manggha Museum, one of the most important projects initiated by Andrzej Wajda and Krystyna Zachwatowicz-Wajda.
The exhibition closes with the chapter “Wajda — Citizen”, recalling his involvement in social and public affairs. The exhibition allows us to look at Andrzej Wajda not only through the lens of his films, but also as a man for whom art, responsibility and civic commitment were closely linked.
The exhibition was co-financed from the state budget.

Author's meeting around the book “Andrzej Wajda. I was born in Suwałki”, a publication presenting the director through the prism of his connections with his hometown. It is a story about his family, his father, Wajda's return to Suwałki and meetings with the inhabitants, as well as his artistic and senatorial activities. We will talk about the book with its authors: Joanna Sztelmer-Stabińska and Krzysztof Skłodowski.
For the participants of the event we have prepared a unique gift — 100 copies of the album will be given to the public free of charge.
