About the project
Fantastic collaboration of the trio of Polish guitarist and composer Przemysław Strączek with the icon of European jazz Andy Sheppard.
At the beginning of 2024, the most anticipated album of the pod's career to date was released - “Endless Mystery”, recorded with the participation of the world famous British saxophonist Andy Sheppard, associated with the record label ECM.
This is the result of several years of cooperation, which began in 2019 with joint tours and only now found its completion in the recording studio.
The album is dominated by melodiousness, space, intense sounds and unexpected twists - a manifestation of the musicians' shared belief in the power of nuance and conscious tension building.
The contrast between intimate, almost intimate fragments and more expressive moments makes the album act as a complex artistic narrative, engaging both emotionally and intellectually.
Composition
Andy Sheppard - tenor saxophone, compositions
Przemysław Strączek - guitar, compositions
Kuba Cywiński - double bass
Patryk Dobosz - drums
Andy Sheppard
Andy Sheppard - one of the most important British jazz saxophonists and composers, awarded many times by the British Academy of Phonography in the category of jazz music.
He has toured and recorded with the most important: the Paul Bley trio, with the bands of Jimmy Giuffre, Art Farmer, George Russell, Gary Burton, Mike Gibbs, Gil Evans.
In the early 1990s, he collaborated with Carla Bley and Steve Swallow, forming, among others, the quartet The Lost Chords - one of the most important groups in contemporary jazz.
His original quartet emerged with the audacious album “Surrounded By Sea” realized in 2015 by Manfred Eicher at his Munich bastion of modern jazz, ECM Records.
The recording has not only been hailed as a perfect fit with the mood and motto of ECM (“sound above silence”), but critics have also coined a new term for the saxophonist's music and composition: “moving gentleness”.
Bley/Sheppard/Swallow's album “Life Goes On” featuring him was voted the album of the year 2020 by New York opinion magazine DownBeat.
Przemysław Strączek
Przemysław Strączek - jazz guitarist, composer, producer and band leader.
A graduate of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, honored, among others, with the Special Prize of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage (2013) and the Award of the Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship in the field of music (2015).
For more than two decades, she has consistently pursued her own artistic path, based on dialogue between cultures, styles and personalities.
Research in the field of music takes place on many levels: in the approach to harmony, aesthetics, sound or timbre of sound. The sum of these new perspectives is reflected in the recordings - each subsequent album becomes a mosaic of different traditions that enter into relationships with each other and form a dialogical musical language.
Each of his projects - regardless of the form - is characterized by maturity and clarity of ideas that do not arise from impulse, but from a long-maturing need.
