About the event

“ANNA OF THE GREEN HILL”
ON THE NEW STAGE OF THE ROMA MUSIC THEATRE

Lucy Maud Montgomery's book “Anne of Green Hill”, set in Canada at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, was published in 1908 and delighted readers from the beginning. It saw many film adaptations (the first was filmed as early as 1919 and it was a silent cinema) and even more diverse stage productions.

The staging of “Ani z Zielony Wzgórza” on the New Stage of the ROMA Musical Theatre — with script, lyrics and directed by Cezari Domagała — will, for example, refer to the era in which Lucy Maud Montgomery's book takes place, but at the same time intends to operate with contemporary stylistics in every respect when it comes to elements such as acting, language and, above all, the music of Jakub Lubowicz. The performance will include atmospheric, musical pieces, but also those that refer to rap. You will also hear songs inspired by Irish and Scottish music, telling about the fate of the title character.

Lucy Maud Montgomery's book is about an orphaned child who feels rejected and never had a real home. This house remained only in the realm of dreams — desires and longings for the warmth of the family hearth and the true love of parents. The show will show that dreams can become reality, even if at first it seems impossible, it will also tell about the right to be different and the right of every person to live in a community. The show will address many issues that are extremely relevant today — such as social exclusion, tolerance and respect for tradition.

“Anna from the Green Hill” is included in the canon of supplementary readings and is intended for the oldest grades of primary school. The performance is not intended to replace reading a book — the ambition of its creators is to encourage the young viewer to read and confront the stage interpretation with the literary prototype. And if indeed, after watching the performance on the New Stage of the ROMA Musical Theater, the young spectator reaches (maybe
for the first time, or perhaps again) after the novel by Lucy Maud Montgomery, the authors and producers of this show will count it a success.

“ANGEL OF THE GREEN HILL” based on the novel by Lucy Maud Montgomery, translated by Rozalia Bernstein
