The performance will be a theatrical reinterpretation of Luis Buñuel's famous film “Angel of Doom” - a black comedy from 1962.
The starting point is a seemingly trivial situation: a group of elite representatives, invited to an elegant party, cannot leave the living room in which they found themselves. What at first seems an absurd impasse gradually turns into a ruthless social experiment, exposing the mechanisms of power, symbolic violence and the disintegration of the community. In a stuffy, enclosed space, logic, social norms and a sense of security gradually fade away.
The play is directed by Data Tavadze — a renowned Georgian director, songwriter and creator of a bold, politically engaged theater. In her work, she often addresses the themes of freedom, oppression, identity and social change in the contemporary world, combining classical texts with modern form and expressive social commentary.
In his author's interpretation, “Angel of Doom” becomes a story about a society trapped in its own privileges, unable to go beyond the learned roles and structures of domination.
The performance features sudden and loud sound effects, including gunshot sounds and smoke is used
The performance was realized as part of the 46th Warsaw Theater Meetings.
The task is carried out thanks to the financial support of the City of Warsaw. Co-financed from the funds of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Fund for the Promotion of Culture — a state special purpose fund.
