The opening of the exhibition will take place on October 23 at 7 p.m.

The exhibition Czasorozmycie — reflections on a previously recorded painting was created in the course of a year-long dialogue between the artists: Anna Orbaczewska from Gdańsk and Luīze Rukne from Riga. Its theme is the relationship of man with the environment, time and memory. The work of both artists draws inspiration from personal stories, as well as from the geography and nature of their immediate surroundings, with each of them experiencing them from the perspective of a different generation. Luīze Ruksāne, a Latvian artist of the younger generation, lives and works between Hamburg and Riga. Anna Orbaczewska works in Gdańsk and has been developing her artistic career for years both in Poland and abroad.

The exhibition will include works that the artists have created together and separately. Their favorite technique is drawing. Both authors experiment with its use, going into the third dimension or replacing traditional paper with other substrates. At the exhibition in MPZ we will also find paintings, collages or installations. The works of Anna and Luīze can be read as an attempt to capture silence and reflection, or to look at moments stretched out in time. They capture moments, seemingly trivial, yet important, and also record the changes to which we ourselves, the people close to us and the nature around us, on which we depend inextricably. From these searches, a reflection on the fragility of memory and the emotional complexity of everyday life is born.

Exhibition prepared in cooperation with the Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art in Riga.

Anna Orbaczewska (born 1974, Poland). He lives and works in Gdańsk and Sopot. She studied at the Faculty of Painting and Graphics of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk and at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague (Netherlands). An important place in her work is occupied by a drawing treated as an intimate, sincere emotional diary. She presented her projects at the State Art Gallery in Sopot, Galeria Biała in Lublin, CSW Łaźnia in Gdańsk, BWA Zielona Góra, CAP Kobe in Japan and A.I.R. Gallery in New York. At the end of 2024, she also participated in the Residency Unlimited residency program in New York City.

Luīze Rukne (born 1995, Latvia). He lives and works in Hamburg and Riga. He creates primarily in the technique of drawing. Her works deal with memory, time and the notion of settling down, relating to personal and collective histories.
