The retelling of Sophocles's ancient tragedy asks how the actions of an individual can become a political movement.

About the event

The retelling of Sophocles's ancient tragedy asks how the actions of an individual can become a political movement.

There are fairly large footsteps ahead of Ismene. Everyone knows her older sister's name: Antigone. Antigone, who stood up for her ideals, who opposed state power and had to pay for it with her life. But who is Ismene anyway? Ismene herself, who becomes the main character in “Antigone's Legacy,” also asks herself this question. And above all, she is concerned with: What is expected of her? How can Ismene carry on Antigone's spirit of resistance and maintain the vision of a more just society. Facing up to your sister's inheritance involves a great responsibility and can also be an opportunity for political change.

“Antigone's Legacy” is commissioned by playwright and poet Athena Farrokhzad for the Theater an der Parkaue. Farnaz Arbabi, director and director of the children's and youth theatre “Unga Klara” in Stockholm, premieres the play. Inspired by women in resistance movements around the world, the Swedish-Iranian team presents a powerful, poetic plea for female solidarity.

Awarded the IKARUS Theatre Prize 2025 in the Youth Theatre category.
