A park in lower Manhattan, New York is a space of living for shipwrecked people, lonely homeless people and people thrown on the sidelines of one of the richest cities in the world. Among them are emigrants who failed to fulfill the American dream — Puerto Rican Anita, Polish Pchełka and Russian Sasha. What do they miss? What do they dream about? And why can we, whose rhythm of life is often determined by the repayment of loans, see ourselves in them? Who are immigrants to us?
Janusz Głowacki's play directed by Maciej Marczewski is a brilliant and moving tragicomedy about social exclusion and the inalienable right to fight for one's identity and dignity.
Janusz Głowacki “Antigone in New York”
The performance used a song from Frank Sinatra's repertoire: Strangers In The Night (d. Charles Singleton/Eddie Snyder, ice. Bert Kaempfer), New York, New York (d. Fred Ebb, ice. John Kander), That's Life (d. Kelly Gordon, ice. Dean Kay Thompson), Fly Me To The Moon (ed. Bart Howard)
Director Maciej Marczewski was perfectly able to extract comedic elements from this brilliant text, emphasize the intelligent humor contained in the drama and create a tragicomic picture of the world on stage. So the real picture. Life is not one-dimensional. There are many situations on stage, although dramatic, but at the same time so absurd that you can often hear laughter in the audience.
