A new format is starting at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden — the Apollo Salon, which can be seen nine times during the season on Sunday mornings, is celebrating its start. In the first matinee, general music director Christian Thielemann talks to Detlef Giese from the dramaturgy about Richard Strauss's songs. It highlights a complex of works that, since taking office two years ago, has received particular attention from Christian Thielemann, one of the most important Strauss conductors of the present day. All of Strauss's orchestral songs will be performed in the Staatskapelle Berlin symphony concerts under his direction — an extraordinary, ambitious project that opens a new chapter in the immediate vicinity of the first Apollo Salon with a performance of the famous Four Last Songs.
