A performance by Krzysztof Warlikowski based on texts by Aeschylus, Euripides, Hanna Krall and others.

About the event

A performance by Krzysztof Warlikowski based on texts by Aeschylus, Euripides, Hanna Krall and others.

Iphigenia, Alkestis, Apollonia are the three victims of human life, victims of fate, destiny, wars, forced and voluntary sacrifices. Taken in mythical times, when the gods were still involved in human affairs, and in the twentieth century, when it was too late for any divine intervention, and the fate of the victims lost the literary character of the tragedy and became the subject of severe reportage.

In (A) pollonia, Warlikowski takes up the theme of giving in the context of responsibility, which in a world of zironized and demystified tragedy is exclusively an interpersonal matter. Based on the texts of Aeschylus, Euripides, Hannah Krall, J. M. Coetze and many others, his adaptation is an incredible journey through the great slaughterhouse that is the fate of humanity. In this deadly parade, not only people take part, but also gods and heroes, victims and executioners, actors and spectators. Warlikowski storms his steadfast beliefs about giving. Shouldn't these soaring acts raise doubts? What if one offering leads to other sacrifices? Can this march be stopped at all?

The discussion is conducted using very different types of language, through which it penetrates not only the heroic, but above all the everyday aspects of the offering. He discovers what really happened when Iphigenia, Alkestis and Apollonia, who saved the lives of Jews during World War II, said their silent yes, ready to sacrifice their lives.
