Piotr Buszewski and Szymon Mechliński — artists who regularly perform on the most prestigious opera stages in the world, from New York's Metropolitan Opera and Opernhaus Zürich to Teatro Real in Madrid and Teatro Massimo di Palermo — will present together for the first time a unique program dedicated to Polish operatic romanticism.
It will be the premiere event revealing a repertoire almost absent on contemporary stages. The concert program will recall the works of composers who co-created the history of Polish opera of the 19th century, although many of their works remain almost unknown to the general public today.
We will hear arias, duets and stage fragments by Tadeusz Joteyka, Józef Brzowski, Henryk Jarecki, Henryk Opienski, Franciszek Mirecki, Adam Münchheimer, Zygmunt Noskowski and Alojzy Dworaczek — artists building Polish musical culture between the tradition of Italian bel canto and German romanticism and the nascent national style.
A special place will be occupied by fragments of operas by Henryk Jarecki — one of the most important Polish opera composers of the second half of the 19th century. The audience will hear Zygmunt August's aria from Barbara Radziwiłłówna's opera, full of lyricism and dramatic tension, as well as excerpts from operas Jadwiga and Mindowe. They will be accompanied by works inspired by Polish history, romantic literature and European opera tradition.
The concert will also be an opportunity to discover music that has remained outside the main philharmonic and opera repertoire for decades. The arias and duets of Polish Romanticism amaze with their melodiousness, emotionality and orchestration, showing how rich and diverse Polish opera culture was in the 19th century.
