Following in the footsteps of history

The location where today's Humboldt Forum is located has a long and varied history: Hohenzollern Residence, Aufmarschplatz, Palast der Republik and Große Wiese — in the middle of Berlin, it was always a venue of particular political significance and at the same time one of artistic expression.

Which themes and objects still remind us of the past and the various historical events? And what do they say about the history of the place?

The overview encourages discussion of historical images and their impact in the present day. Based on selected stations and objects, it offers an insight into the history of the town from the time of the Electors, Kings and Emperors to the debate about the demolition of the Palace of the Republic and illustrates the diverse uses of the place in various periods of time.
