Ava Rocha draws on warm samba and bossa as well as Western pop and indie rock influences in her deeply personal and quirky singer-songwriter expression. For nearly two decades, the Brazilian musician, performer and recording artist has won the hearts of audiences worldwide and featured on Iggy Pop's personal playlist on BB6 Radio. At ALICE we are delighted to present her in October, when she plays her first Danish concert.
As one of the most important voices on the Brazilian alternative music scene, since the late 2010s Ava Rocha has created a deeply personal expression across music, art, performance and film. With distinct echoes of samba, bossa and Latin American music traditions, with a warm, dramatic voice and with influences from Western pop and indie rock, she moves freely between genres and experimental forms of expression — always in a visually leavened and pale-sparkling universe.
Ava Rocha has a number of critically acclaimed records in her luggage, most recently the Thiago Nassif and Jonas Sá-produced album “NEKTAR” from 2023, which brought her in The New York Times, NPR and Sounds and Colours, among others. Her quirky songs have also found their way to punk icon Iggy Pop in one of his shows on BB6 Radio. Rocha's live performances often go far beyond the traditional concert format and function almost as total works — characterized by presence, intensity and humor — in which a sensory bombardment of sound, movement, text and visual elements are inextricably linked. Ava Rocha has performed all over Brazil and internationally, including in the United States, China, Colombia, Argentina, Mexico, Portugal, Germany, Peru and Uruguay, and now the tour has reached small DK, where she plays a concert at ALICE in October, current with a new album.
