Sparkling Kurdish singing star occupies Copenhagen

About the event

What does one of the world's most breathtaking voices sound like? The beloved and iconic singer Aynur has resonated across borders for decades with her beautiful and personal approach to Kurdish folk music. Now she is ready to enter Copenhagen, and we are honored to present her when she gives a concert with a full band at Amager Bio's Concert Hall in November in collaboration with ALICE and Danimarka Events.

Practical: The concert takes place in Amager Bio's concert hall and the concert is seated. There are chairs for all ticket buyers — come in good time if you want to secure a good seat. It is not possible to reserve specific seats in advance, but there is a good view from all seats. There is good parking near the concert hall.

“She is a reason to love live music for centuries” — Javier Limón

During his 25-year career, Aynur Dogan has reshaped the musical landscape by blending the deep-rooted traditions of Kurdish folk music with contemporary Western clang. Her interpretations of Kurdish and Alevitian traditions are borne of a rare artistic integrity, with each note exuding history, longing and resilience. At the same time, she manages to open up the music and make it both timeless and relevant for a global audience.

Aynur's artistic range is reflected in her many collaborations with international capacities such as Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble, Kayhan Kalhor and the NDR Big Band, as well as she has played on Roskilde Festival's Orange stage with Den Sorte Skole. Here she unfolds her voice in new contexts and shows how tradition can be a living, changeable expression. Her musical journey has also been portrayed in acclaimed documentaries and hailed in leading media worldwide. With awards such as the WOMEX Artist Award and the Master of Mediterranean Music Award, Aynur has been recognized not only for her artistic work, but also for her persistent commitment to preserving and renewing a cultural heritage under pressure. When she walks on stage, it is with an almost magnetic presence, bringing the audience together in a shared, sensuous experience. We are honored to present a rare concert with Aynur when she plays with full band in Amager Bio's concert hall this November. The concert is seated.

Said about Aynur

“To hear Aynur's voice is to hear the transformation of all the layers of human joy and suffering into one sound. It reaches so deep into our soul, tears into our hearts, and then we are for one moment, joined as one. It's unforgetable.” -- Yo Yo Ma

“Dit is for her long-term dedication to the preservation and innovation of Kurdish and Alevi culture, for maintaining the highest artistic integrity in the face of political pressure and, in doing so, for being a model for all that sing against the silencers, that Aynur Doğan is a very worthy recipient of the WOMEX 21 Artist Award.” — WOMEX 2021
