Azizzi Romeo (JM) & Guiding Star in Dub (Morten McCoy/Steve Borth II) + Slalum

Jamaican singer Azizzi Romeo lifts the legacy of roots reggae into the present when he guests ALICE in October and plays a live dub set with Morten McCoy and Steve Borth II of the Copenhagen all star ensemble Guiding Star Orchestra. With debut album “Signs Of The Time”, Azizzi Romeo combines the classic 70s roots sound with contemporary productions, spiritual heaviness and an indomitable message of peace, community and hope in a troubled time. Danish rapper Slalum opens the evening with a dub remix set.

Azizzi Romeo grew up in Linstead, Jamaica, as the son of roots reggae legend Max Romeo. Music has been a part of his life since childhood, and already at the age of eight he was on stage as the lead singer of the duo Rominal together with his brother. He later toured the world with his father before finding his own artistic voice. Today, Azizzi Romeo moves between the conscious roots reggae tradition and a more contemporary sound with electronic textures and introspective songwriting.

On her debut album “Signs Of The Time”, which will be released just before the concert at ALICE, Azizzi Romeo really steps forward as an independent artist. The songs are carried by warm grooves, distinctive bass lines and a clear desire to bring people together in a world marked by division. Joined by the Guiding Star Orchestra, which counts Morten McCoy (Bremer/McCoy) and Steve Borth II (chllngr) among others, the music unfolds with both respect for reggae's golden era and a look toward the future. At the same time, Max Romeo's vocals appear as something special on the release in one of his very last recordings before his passing. Get ready for an evening of deep riddims and reggae with a beating heart when Azizzi Romeo and members from the Guiding Star Orchestra play a live dub set at ALICE through Oct.

Slalom

Rapper Slalum aka Laura Dalum-Hansen is usually the guarantor of high-energy jungle and hip-hop, but this night she'll change tracks when she opens for Azzizi Romeo. Together with Anton Goltermann, Slalum presents a dub remix set where breaks and beats are formed live on beat-machines. All remixes are being created on site and are currently occurring. Come early and hear a strong opening set.
