What began as a low-budget series of found footage about wandering through endless, liminal office-like spaces has blossomed into one of the most surprising hits of recent years. The film drew viewers to cinemas who grew up following the subsequent installments of the online legend posted on YouTube. That grassroots energy and fan engagement doesn't wane. The creators met expectations and added additional scenes to the film.
The huge interest of the audience meant that the production received an extended cinema version. “Backrooms. No Exit — Extended Version” includes an additional 15 minutes of footage shown after the end credits. The extended release was exclusively available in cinemas from July 31st this year.
Additional material takes viewers back to June 1990 and allows you to plunge even deeper into the mystery of Backrooms. We follow the Async Research Institute team as they venture into the next spaces of the maze. Investigators come across increasingly disturbing clues — from mysterious ship rudders to flashing TV and puzzling signs. The atmosphere becomes more and more stuffy with every minute, until finally the heroes come face to face with an invisible threat
“Backrooms. No Way Out” was released in Polish cinemas on June 19. The film was directed by Kane Parsons, adapting his own viral web series. The worldwide proceeds from the distribution of this film phenomenon are approaching 400 million dollars.
The main roles are played by Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve, who play the owner of a furniture store and his therapist, respectively. The heroes accidentally discover a labyrinth of endless, disturbing rooms hidden behind the basement wall. The film quickly became one of the highest-grossing premieres in the history of the A24 studio, responsible for “The Great Marty” or “Drama”.
