BALL IN THE BIG

January 8, 2027 | from 7:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

There are evenings that are worth living with a bang. On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Grand Theatre in Łódź, we invite you to a ball, during which film music will meet opera and ballet, and the theatre foyer will turn into a dance floor. It will be a night of great voices, favorite melodies and joint celebration — surrounded by art and in the company of the artists of our Theater.

Artistic program

19.00 | main foyer — Music of the Big Screen

The post-war history of Łódź is also the story of the flourishing of cinema — cinematic stories, unforgettable heroes and melodies that have stirred the imagination for generations. It is with the music of the big screen that we will start our ball.

In the representative foyer there will be compositions by Wojciech Kilar: waltzes from “Leprosy” and “The Promised Land”, a melody from “Strega of Shadow”, vocals from “Ninth Gate”, mazur from “Revenge” and tango from the film “Jealousy and Medicine”. We will also hear the temperamental “Elena's Dance” by Michał Lorenc from “Bandit” or the ragtime by Henryk Kuźniak from “Vabank”. Music comes to life in dance paintings prepared by Joshua Legge. The culmination of this part of the evening will be a polonaise from “Pana Tadeusz” by Wojciech Kilar. We invite all guests to dance together — let this first procession solemnly open the jubilee ball!

After the opening part, it will be time for refreshments and conversations.

20.30 | Main stage — Great Artists of the Theatre

The Jubilee is an opportunity to share what is most valuable in our Theatre: the talent, passion and craftsmanship of its artists. We invite you to a concert that will allow you to move for a moment into the world of opera passions and ballet fairy tales.

Joanna Woś, Hanna Okońska, Bernadetta Grabias, Dominik Sutowicz and Arkadiusz Anyszka will perform on stage, as well as the Ballet and Orchestra of the Grand Theatre in Łódź.

The program will include the pearls of the opera repertoire: “Casta diva” from Bellini's “Norma”, Toreador's aria from Bizet's “Carmen”, “Mon cœur s'ouverture à ta voix” from Saint-Saëns' “Samson and Dalila” or “Duet of flowers” from Delibes' “Lakmé”. In the fairytale setting of Tchaikovsky's “The Nutcracker” we will see a belt de deux and “Waltz of flowers”. This part of the evening will be completed by a mazur from Moniuszko's “Scary Manor” — music that has occupied a special place in the history of the Łódź opera scene for years.

After the concert, we invite you to another break, warm refreshments and meetings at the table.

22.30—2.00 | main foyer — Big Ball, time to dance!

The evening is yours now! Iza Połońska and Bartek Grzanek with the ensemble and the Grohman Orchestra will be invited to dance.

On the dance floor there will be foxtrots, waltzes, tango, beguines, rumbies, swing and timeless hits that will hum the next generations. We will hear songs from the repertoire of Hanka Ordonówna, Mieczysław Fogg, Eugeniusz Bodo and Ewa Bem, compositions by Henryk Wars and Jerzy Petersburski, works by Jeremi Usztyła and Jerzy Wasowski and songs to words by Agnieszka Osiecka, Wojciech Młynarski and Jonasz Kofta. We have fun until 2:00!

Sweet and dry finger food snacks and soft drinks will be available throughout the evening in the ballrooms.

Evening dresses apply. Welcome references to the fashion of the interwar twenties.
