Gabriel Gietzky, the director of the play aimed at young people and adult viewers, decided to look at Romanticism, Świtezianka, Lily or Rybka a little differently than the school interpretation of reading accustomed us to. All the more so since Mickiewicz himself, writing Ballads and Romances, had not only an emotional attitude towards these mysterious stories originating from communal traditions, but also a distance.
The creators of the show tried to look at them from the perspective of the modern generation of young people, who in a unique, fascinating world full of fantasies, folk beliefs and moral truths will often find their own moods and dilemmas, as well as aesthetics close to them.
Using a variety of forms and techniques, the actors play with text, movement, song... The staging uses various theatrical conventions, including the grotesque, while maintaining at the same time a great respect for Mickiewicz's magnificent poem.
The performance was realized as part of the Year of Polish Romanticism and the Romanticism 2022 project related to the bicentennial of the publication of Ballads and Romances.
Co-financed from the funds of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Fund for the Promotion of Culture — a state special purpose fund.
The play took part in the VIII Competition for the Staging of Old Works of Polish Literature “Living Classics”.
