We invite you to the creative staging of Juliusz Słowacki's “Balladyna”. Our latest performance is an unusual interpretation of a classic drama, close to Shakespeare and Gothic novels, made by the well-known Belarusian director Oleg Zhuzhda.
As Juliusz Kleiner writes, “The action is based on the whims of chance — but in this madness of chance there is a method. [...] Among the persons in the drama there is a woman, as if made for Kirkor's wife — Alina; meanwhile Kirkor gets Balladyna as his wife. A man walks through the Nadgoplaine forest, created for Goplan's lover — Philo; but she falls in love with the drunkard Grabcus-drunkard. A wonderful crown awaits the forehead of the wise and noble [...] meanwhile, first the fool will adorn, and then the criminal.”
In “Balladin” the characters of the real world are intertwined with magical fairy-tale phenomena. Strict in the decor, the inn becomes alternately a raspberry chrysanthemum, a forest, a palace, a battlefield or a courtroom. All this thanks to impressive multimedia projections and lighting arrangements. The music of Bogdan Szczepański builds the mood of the performance, and the whole is fastened together by one of the most beloved pieces performed by Anna German “Dancing Eurydies”. The performance is realized in a jivoplane-puppet convention.
A strobe lamp is used in the performance.
