About the event

BAMBI RETURNS TO NØRREBRO THEATRE
After 20,000 tickets sold and only sold out, Bambi is back to premiere at Nørrebro Teater in December 2026.

Bambi Is Back is an examination of modern motherhood in a world that has lost its connection to nature.

Bambi moves with her mother and father into the shadow of an amusement park -- in what was once a forest -- to live a seemingly safe and sheltered life. But the idyll is punching fissures. The mother feels how she slowly loses herself trying to care for those she loves the most and in trying to live up to both her own and society's ideals. In her encounter with the forest, she must let go of the notion of the all-sacrificing mother and confront the forces that have shaped her. The family comes under pressure when the balance between love, care, independence and self-sacrifice begins to slip.

The performance has been developed by the cross-aesthetic studio How to Kill a Dog in continuation of their methodological work, where the audience and digital followers are included as co-creators. Based on Felix Salten's classic Bambi — A Life in the Forest, HTKAD explores what it means to be human, woman and mother today — a hundred years after the book's publication.

Emma Sehested Høeg is on stage, while set designer Petruska Miehe-Renard and director Jennifer Vedsted Christiansen have created the visual and dramaturgic universe. The music is newly composed by Emma Sehested Høeg and performed live by the string ensemble Who Killed Bambi, with whom HTKAD proudly collaborates for the musical pulse of the performance.

HOW TO KILL A DOG

How to Kill a Dog was founded in 2019 by Jennifer Vedsted Christiansen & Emma Sehested Høeg. HTKAD's works continuously examine their place in society, moving at the intersection of activism, performance, concert and narrative. They work with themes such as gender, body and sexuality and are interested in how the audience and their followers can be involved in both the process and the work. HTKAD today consists of director Jennifer Vedsted Christiansen (also artistic director at Nørrebro Teater), singer, composer and actress, Emma Sehested Høeg and set designer Petruska Miehe-Renard.
