“BEYOND 1984, BEYOND 2001, BEYOND LOVE, BEYOND DEATH.”

In the late 23rd century, a savage trained only to kill finds a way into the community of bored immortals that preserves humanity's achievements.

Way back in BAR TRASH Season 3, John Boorman’s EXORCIST II: THE HERETIC (1977) became the most hated movie in our history. That was the first season we rolled out our ‘trash or treasure’ audience review cards and it’s safe to say the response was savage…

Prepare then to wrap your head around the same director’s ZARDOZ (1973), an ambitious post-apocalyptic saga that features Sean Connery running around in an adult nappy (or it could be a mankini?) worshipping a giant floating head.

Boorman wrote, produced and directed ZARDOZ after a project to film LORD OF THE RINGS collapsed around him. The result is either one of the most underrated sci-fi headtrips ever filmed, or it’s a “risible hodge-podge of literary allusions, highbrow porn, sci-fi staples, [and] half-baked intellectualism” (Empire Magazine). As always, only the Trash will decide…

Polite notice: We are showing ZARDOZ with subtitles from the best available digital source.
