About the event

Alexander Bardini said of himself: “I am a boring, uninteresting, normal person.” He was one of the most important figures of Polish post-war culture - a director of dramatic and opera performances, an educator, a theater and film actor, and even a television star. For many, he was an authority.

He dreamed of a career as a conductor, but chose the theater. He graduated from acting and directing studies. He considered Leon Schiller and Alexander Zelverovich to be his masters. Thanks to Schiller, in 1950 he became involved as a director at the Polish Theatre in Warsaw, where in the same year he took up the position of deputy director and artistic director. His staging of “Dziadów” by Mickiewicz, the first after the war, with Ignacy Gogolewski and Stanisław Jasiukiewicz in the role of Gustav Konrad, went down in the history of the theatre. This performance has been played 271 times.

In the theater, Bardini valued, first of all, the literary text and the artistry of the actor. He was a connoisseur and lover of music, so opera occupied a special place in his directorial work. He collaborated with Polish Radio, where he directed radio plays, prose adaptations and poetry broadcasts. He played in films, among others with Wajda, Zanussi and Kieślowski. In the seventies, he hosted a very popular TV show, according to his own script - “Meetings with Professor Alexander Bardini.”

The first full biography of Alexander Bardini, compiled by Grzegorz Kozak, published by the Publishing Cooperative “Czytelnik”, is a treasure trove of knowledge about an extraordinary man and an extraordinary artist, which was Alexander Bardini. We cordially invite you to meet the author!

We also encourage you to view on our educational platform a collection of photos from the Polish Theater performances, in which he played or directed by Aleksander Bardini: wlabiryncieteatru.pl
