Could rest be the beginning of a revolution? Is it possible to indulge in la dolce vita, when every pleasure has its price? Who can afford to rest and how much does it cost to be able to decide your own life?
“Sickness is the holiday of the poor,” wrote Guillaume Apollinaire. This phrase becomes the starting point for “A Very Short Vacation”, a social melodrama inspired by the cinema of Vittorio De Siki and Italian neorealism. In the sanatorium of the 70s, women from different classes and worlds meet, for whom illness unexpectedly becomes a pass to rest and a path to real transformation. They eat, dance, fall in love and enjoy life outside the daily grind of work. In the shadow of the Italian la dolce vita, a vacation from duties leads to the question of whether it is possible to afford not to return to the old life and start all over again.
