Bridging three centuries of sacred music, the BBC Singers present a contemplative programme ahead of Holy Week, exploring the works of Dieterich Buxtehude and Arvo Pärt. Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri is a profound cycle of seven cantatas, each meditatively focusing on a different part of the crucified body of Christ. In contrast, Arvo Pärt’s setting of Psalm 51 employs his signature minimalist style to deliver a raw, deeply dramatic interpretation of the biblical text.
