A sense of scale, vision and fearless imagination runs through this compelling programme. Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts Sibelius’s Symphony No. 7, a single-movement masterpiece in which vast ideas unfold with extraordinary concentration and inevitability.
Johan Dalene is the soloist in Magnus Lindberg’s Violin Concerto No. 1, a work of glittering surfaces, athletic virtuosity and restless energy that places the soloist in constant, vivid dialogue with the orchestra. Praised by Bachtrack for his “astonishing flair and musicality”, he brings his virtuoso mastery to one of the great contemporary works for his instrument.
Beethoven’s ‘Eroica’ Symphony brings the evening to its transformative conclusion. Revolutionary in breadth and ambition, it redefined what a symphony could be, balancing grandeur, grief, momentum and triumph on an unprecedented scale. With the Philharmonia’s Conductor Laureate Esa-Pekka Salonen, this is music that thinks big, feels deeply and leaves a lasting impression.
Beethoven 200 is made possible by Cockayne Grants for the Arts, founding supporters of the Philharmonia Creative Futures Fund. Cockayne Grants for the Arts is a Donor Advised Donor Fund, held at The Prism Charitable Trust.
