Did you know that Beethoven never married? That he not only composed masterpieces but was also interested in philosophy, poetry and politics? That he always carried a handful of sand from the banks of the Rhine in his pocket?
The Beethoven — Ein Leben production is much more than just a best of album of his most famous works. Together with the chamber orchestra, band and choir, we work with Beethoven to find out what the life of an exceptional artist felt like. Get to know who he knew. Listen in his head.
Beethoven's original scores form the common biographical thread. They are the musical carpet that is increasingly being cut by electric guitar and synthesizer sounds as Beethoven's hearing loss progresses. “When the music dies away, so does my life.” — Just one of Beethoven's countless oft-quoted statements. Biographically woven into the scene, his words prove even more powerfully the fate of the genius.
Beethoven — a life is a historical artist portrait for adults and young audiences aged 10 and over, staged and courageously cast with chamber orchestra, choir, band and a 13-member ensemble. The piece tells Beethoven's work in a new, exciting way from two musical perspectives.
