Ludwig van Beethoven — Fifth Symphony in C minor Op. 67

Ludwig van Beethoven's Fifth Symphony is one of the most recognizable works in the history of music. During the concert from the Choir-Mastowsko series! however, it will sound in a unique version — as a choral piece, showing the famous score from a completely new perspective. The programme will be completed with three songs to the words of Johann Wolfgang Goethe, which recall the lesser-known, intimate side of the composer's work.

Although Ludwig van Beethoven went down in history primarily as the creator of symphonies, concertos and piano sonatas, he was also interested in song throughout his life. A special place in his work was occupied by the poetry of Johann Wolfgang Goethe, a writer whom he considered one of the most outstanding creators of his era. Three songs to Goethe's words show Beethoven as a master of musical miniature, able to translate poetic images into the language of sounds with extraordinary sensitivity. The intimate form allows both lyricism and the emotional intensity characteristic of the composer to sound here.

The focal point of the evening will be the Fifth Symphony, performed for the first time in a choral arrangement. The work, whose famous four-sound theme for more than two centuries has been recognized as a symbol of the struggle against fate and the triumph of the human spirit, will sound this time through a human voice. The choral interpretation allows to discover new layers of this music, highlighting its polyphonic construction, rhythmic energy and unusual logic of the development of motifs.

From the dramatic beginning of the first part, through the lyrical middle links, to the triumphant finale, the Fifth Symphony retains its power of influence regardless of the cast. The transfer of orchestral parts to the choir allows us to look at Beethoven's masterpiece from a new perspective and hear in it not only a monumental symphony, but also the extraordinary potential of the human voice as an instrument capable of conveying the fullness of emotions and musical meanings.
