Prometheus, they say, brought the fire of the gods to humanity, paying a terrible price for his daring. Beethoven also faced misunderstanding and personal tragedy – but he too unleashed a power that could transform lives. “Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom!” he declared, and in his only ballet he retold the myth of Prometheus for an age of Revolution.
This new production of this life-affirming masterpiece is made by Academy of Ancient Music together with the astonishing Circa, for Beethoven’s anniversary year. Sublime music and the endlessly creative physicality of world-class circus performers, coming together to rekindle the divine fire in our own restless times. Be there when it ignites.
Promoted by Academy of Ancient Music in partnership with the Barbican.
The Creatures of Prometheus is supported by the Polonsky Foundation as part of the Barbican's Beethoven 200 celebrations.
