The String Archestra promotes PoC musicians in classical music and honors overlooked composers from different periods due to their ethnic origin. Her program with the Rothko String Quartet draws on the rich musical heritage of three centuries on four continents — from French-Senegalese composer Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges (1745—1799) to “Normadic Nirvana” by South African composer Monthati Masebe born in 1996 and “The Holy Presence Of Joan D'Arc,” Julius Eastman's haunting homage to the medieval heroine and queer icon.
In our series “Berlin — Music of the City in the Konzerthaus”, paths of musicians and ensembles from Berlin cross paths, who are eager to experiment with styles that all have a home in this city — from voguing to strings and synthesizers to jazz. Berlin Tracks wants to inspire, connect communities and invite them to follow different music tracks that together make up the soundtrack of our city.
Program: Ayanna Witter-Johnson: “DreamCity” for string orchestra; Yudania Gómez Heredia: “Song without words” for string quartet; Aldemaro Romero: “Fuga con Pajarillo” (fugue with dance) for string orchestra and cuatro; Monthati Masebe: “Nomadic Nirvana” for string quartet; Eleanor Alberga: string quartet No. 2; Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges: String Quartet No. 5 in G major; Julius Eastman: “The Holy Presence of Joan d'Arc” for string orchestra
